Leona LaurenLeona Louise Lewis (born on April 3, 1985) is a British performer, songwriter, actress and activist. Born and raised in Islington, a part of the London Borough of Islington, she went to The BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon. Lewis was able to gain national attention when she won The X-Factor's third series in the year 2006. The singer also signed the PS1 Million recording contract from Syco Music. A song by Kelly Clarkson"A Moment Like This" was the winner. The song racked up 50,000 digital downloads in under 30 minutes. It also remained at number one for about four weeks. Clive Davis, Lewis's American record label J Records signed Lewis a 5-album deal in February 2007. Her success was further boosted by the album release of her first studio album, Spirit (2007), which was certified 10x platinum in the UK and was subsequently the fourth best-selling album of the 2000s as well as one of the albums that sold the highest in UK chart history. As per the Official Charts Company, Spirit is the most-sold debut album from a female artist to date in the 21st century. "Bleeding Love" is the single that was released as the album's lead track from the album, was number one in the UK for seven weeks. The single was also the UK's best-selling single. In the US It was the highest-selling single of 2008 and Lewis was named Best New Artist by Billboard that year. She released Echo in 2009 , and made "I See You" for the film's title track. In 2011, Lewis released the single "Collide" which was a collaboration together with Swedish DJ Avicii as well as her debut extended play, Hurt: The EP. The third album she released, Glassheart (2012), marked a new creative direction for Lewis taking inspiration from dubstep and electronic music. When she was on the Glassheart Tour in 2013, she started recording music for her debut Christmas album. Christmas, With Love was released later that year and its lead single, "One More Sleep" reached the top spot at three within the UK. Lewis who is a British female solo artist became the first to hit the top of the list with eight singles. This is more than Olivia Newton John's record which had seven.
